About the Tbilisi Old Town walking tour

No trip to Tbilisi feels complete without exploring its historic center. Beyond the colorful balconies, sulfur baths, and postcard-perfect views, the city has been shaped by kings, merchants, invaders, and centuries of remarkable stories.

On my Tbilisi Old Town walking tour, we’ll explore the very streets where the city’s story began. We’ll start at Freedom Square and wander through the winding lanes of the Old Town and Abanotubani, tracing Tbilisi’s journey from its foundation to today. Along the way, I’ll share details and stories you might miss if you were exploring alone.

As someone born and raised here, I enjoy sharing the city’s history in a way that goes beyond the usual dates and facts. During this Tbilisi Old Town tour, you’ll hear surprising events and lesser-known stories that show how it has changed over the centuries.

As we go, we’ll find traces of old fortifications, visit historic churches, walk through the famous sulfur bath district, and stop at landmarks that have seen some of Tbilisi’s most important moments. You’ll also hear how some popular stories became part of the city’s identity and why history is not always as simple as it appears.

This Old Town Tbilisi walking tour is for curious travelers who want more than just a quick look at the main sights. Whether it’s your first visit or you’re coming back to see the city in a new way, you’ll experience a mix of history, culture, local insights, and engaging stories.

My goal is simple. I want you to see the Old Town not just as a group of beautiful buildings and monuments, but as a living place full of stories, traditions, and layers of history that still shape Tbilisi today.
