The story of Memoire Hotel
Opened in September 2022, this charming 3-star boutique Kutaisi hotel, nestled in French Quarter in the city center on Newport Street a few minutes from Colchis Fountain, boasts a captivating and intriguing concept.

Housed within a two-story building that has witnessed the ebb and flow of Georgia’s turbulent history, the hotel stands as a testament to the lives of the diverse individuals who once called it home over its century-long existence.
Entrusting the creation of the Memoire Hotel‘s unique atmosphere and design to the esteemed Georgian Interior Designer Esma Khetsuriani, renowned for her expertise in the realm of hospitality and culinary aesthetics, was a stroke of cleverness. The interior and ambiance of the hotel are undeniably alluring, with carefully selected decorations and color palettes.

Each of their 17 rooms pays homage to notable Georgians who had a significant connection to Kutaisi. These figures include those born, studied, or worked in this vibrant city during their lifetimes.
For instance, Zakaria Paliashvili, a celebrated Georgian opera composer, was born in the French Quarter. Galaktion Tabidze, the 20th-century renowned poet, came to Kutaisi from his tiny village Chkvishi, before relocating to Tbilisi.
Petre Otskheli, a costume designer, was also born in Kutausi. George Balanchine, a ballet choreographer widely regarded as the father of American ballet, was the son of a Kutaisi-born opera singer and composer. And the list goes on!

The overarching vision of the hotel revolves around preserving and sharing the memories associated with these esteemed public figures and their connection to Kutaisi.
The staff will eagerly tell you about the individual their respective rooms are dedicated to.
Interior details
A beautiful highlight of the Memoire Hotel is the main wall of the staircase, adorned with a collection of modern posters, each paying homage to the public figures attributed to the hotel’s rooms.
These posters are a true masterpiece, intriguing me to the point where I found myself spending nearly 10 minutes standing on the steps, admiring the intricate details of each artwork.

Additionally, it’s worth noting the sole painting adorning the reception area wall, elegantly reflected in the mirror hanging behind the reception desk. This artistic touch adds an enchanting element to the ambiance of the space.
The staircase with the railing is original; so are the main doors, beautifully identical, and stand as a testament to the building’s history and character.
The rooms
During my stay at Memoire Hotel, I occupied a room dedicated to Felix Varlamishvili, a distinguished Georgian painter born in Kutaisi in 1903. His talent in graphic art during his formative years at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts garnered much acclaim, leading to his first exhibitions in Kutaisi and Tbilisi in the 1920s. However, in 1929, a few years after completing his studies, he relocated to Paris, where he would eventually pass away in 1986.

The room had subtle dark lighting than I am used to or like. Still, it created an atmosphere of tranquility and relaxation, perfect for unwinding after a long day exploring the streets of Kutaisi.
The room, equipped with modern amenities, featured a television, an electric kettle stocked with tea and coffee, a refrigerator, and other thoughtful complementary provisions. Additionally, the hotel provided a jug of water accompanied by two cups and two water bottles.
Rooms offer stunning vistas of Khvamli Mountain or Bagrati Cathedral, while some have balconies to sit and enjoy your time here.
Wine room
Although the Memoire Hotel currently does not offer an on-site restaurant for dinner, they plan to incorporate one soon. However, guests can indulge in a delightful alternative – an exquisite wine room situated on the hotel’s basement level.

This spacious room boasts an abundance of tables and a comfortable seating area, inviting guests to savor the flavors of regional and local wines. In line with the hotel’s overall aesthetic, the wine room is adorned with vintage furnishings and captivating decorative items, adding to its appeal.
The wine room at Memoire Hotel stands as one of the rare wine bars in Kutaisi, offering a pleasant setting for evening relaxation.
The breakfast
The room price includes a delightful breakfast buffet served daily in the downstairs enchanting Wine Room. The breakfast offerings are simple yet satisfying, featuring a variety of tasty options. You can enjoy fresh vegetables, dairy products, cheese and charcuterie platters, an assortment of jams and honey, pancakes, and a choice of two hot meals.

Among the breakfast delights, I loved homemade Khachapuri with its thin and perfectly crafted dough, complemented by just the right amount of cheese. The simple homemade cake was also delicious.
