Tbilisi Walking Tour: Sololaki’s Bourgeoisie & Haunted Flats

  • Duration: about 1:30 hours
  • Price: 25 EUR pp

We’ll briefly stroll through the Sololaki neighborhood, passing stunning Art Nouveau gems. I’ll share the untold stories of these buildings and their owners that guidebooks don’t cover.

About the Sololaki Walking Tour

Join me on a Tbilisi walking tour through the historic Sololaki neighborhood, where we’ll explore the stunning Art Nouveau, Baroque, and Renaissance-style architectural gems that make this district truly unique.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Tbilisi developed beyond its historic city walls, marking the beginning of a period of cultural and architectural development.

Under Russian Empire rule, Georgia saw notable cultural advancements, many beautifully embodied in the Art Nouveau architecture found in the Mtatsminda, Sololaki, and Chughureti neighborhoods.

These districts are home to some of Tbilisi’s most remarkable architectural jewels, though many of these historic gems are now in dire need of restoration.

The remarkable buildings we’ll see on the tour once belonged to very wealthy merchants and bourgeoisie.

The tour starts at Freedom/Liberty Square, follows the backstreets, and finishes a 5-minute walk from the starting point.

What we’ll see on the Sololaki walking tour:

  • Several magnificent hand-painted hallways, each a work of art in its own right.
  • The iconic former National Bank of Georgia building and its connection with Joseph Stalin.
  • Unique residential houses, each showcasing distinctive architectural styles.
  • See the supposedly “haunted” house that has sparked many stories among locals.
  • The only Gothic-style house in Tbilisi
  • And many more…

As we wander through hidden Tbilisi, I am happy to answer any questions you might have and provide local insights into daily life, culture, and social life.

This walking tour in Tbilisi is a visual feast and a journey into the heart of the city’s rich and often overlooked history. I assure you it will be a day full of discovery, excitement, and unforgettable stories that reveal Sololaki’s true character.

  • We really enjoyed the tour. Seeing buildings we normally wouldn’t pay attention to, let alone dare to walk into, was very interesting. On top of that the guide’s knowledge is very good and adds another layer of interest.
