How to Get from Poznan Airport to City Center in 2024
If you are starting your Polish trip from Poznan, chances are you’ll be flying to its airport. Getting from Poznań airport to city center is relatively easy with well-connected public transportation, taxis, or booking a private transfer.
There are two airports in Poznan, one military base and one civilian. The latter serves both domestic and international flights, including low-budget airlines such as WizzAir and Ryanair.
You’ll be flying in Poznań–Ławica Henryk Wieniawski Airport, the oldest in Poland, built in 1913, which was a military airport used by Imperial Germany.
The airport’s proximity to the city means that the runway is directly over the city, so if you get a window seat, you’ll be treated to stunning Poznan skyline views as you descend to the airport.

How long does it take to get through Poznan airport?
The time required to get through Poznan airport and customs solemnly depends on the traffic and passenger numbers. The airport is not very big, so once you get through passport control, you are basically ready to leave the airport.
On our last visit to Poznan, it took us less than an hour to get through Poznan airport and grab our checked-in bag.
How far is Poznan from airport?
Poznan airport is located west of the city center in Jezyce district, but it takes its name Lawica from the neighborhood of Grunwald district.
The distance from Poznan Airport to city center is only 5km. Poznań Główny, the central train station, is around 6.5km away. Depending on your route, the Stary Rynek or the Old Market Square, is between 9.6 to 10.4km away.
How to get from Poznan airport to city center
Since Poznan airport is very close to the center, it is effortless to get to Poznan city center within 30 minutes, depending on the traffic on the road.
Compared to Krakow, there is no train from Poznan airport to city center. However, the local bus is well-connected and runs day and night. You can also order a taxi or book a private shuttle for convenience and comfort.
You can buy tickets from ticket machines using card. But if you need to exchange money, the airport has a few currency exchange offices working 24/7. However, note that they don’t have the ideal rate, so exchange the amount you need and leave the rest once you get to the city center.
Travel with a local bus
The bus stop is right in front of the passenger terminal. Another one is around 350 meters south of it. Three bus lines operate from Poznan city center to the airport: 148, 159, and 222.
Bus line 159 is the best option for going from Poznan airport to Poznan train station (Poznań Główny). It takes between 22 to 30 minutes, depending on the traffic.
Bus 159 timetable starts at 4:32 am and works until midnight. It runs every 15 to 25 minutes or so. You can see the schedule here.
If your hotel is towards the old town, you can walk or change into a tram at Rondo Kaponiera stop, a 2-minute walk from the bus’s final stop. And if you need to get to the Poznan bus station, it’s right under the Poznań Główny.
Bus line 148 doesn’t start right from the airport arrivals terminal. Instead, you’ll need to walk around 6 minutes to get to the Malechowska bus stop in the Lawica district. You can check the schedule here, but I only recommend it if it’s the only way of getting from Poznan airport to city center.
The night line 222 operates nearly the same route as line 159 but goes further towards the Stary Rynek and finishes at Mogileńska stop. It starts from 11:02 pm till 04:02 am and runs every hour. Check the schedule.
You can hop off at Uniwersytet Ekonomiczny or Poznan Glowny stop for the central station area or to Niezłomnych, and Półwiejska stops closer to the old town.
How to pay for the bus in Poznan?
The airport has machines to buy tickets and pay for the bus in Poznan. One ticket machine is conveniently located at the bus stop outside the Arrivals Hall.
You can pay with cash or a card. Get a 45-minute ticket costing 6 PLN. I’ve read that you can also buy a ticket from the driver but with cash only and with the exact amount as they don’t give you any change. Honestly, I haven’t tried it, as it is super convenient to buy public transport tickets with cards at the ticketing machines in Poznan and other Polish cities.
Unfortunately, I haven’t seen a ticketing machine inside the 159 bus, if for whatever reason you can’t buy a ticket from the machine at the stop. And remember to validate your ticket once you get on the bus.
Poznan airport taxi
For those who dislike crowded public transport and or want to avoid the hustle with the bus schedules, you can use a taxi to get from Poznan airport to the city center and directly to your accommodation.
You can find a Poznan airport taxi right in front of the Arrival Hall 24/7. Alternatively, if you have data on your mobile, you can order a Bolt taxi (similar to Uber) to bring you directly to your hotel in Poznan.
The Poznan airport to city center taxi cost depends on the time of the day and traffic but averages 30 to 60 PLN to the central train station and a bit further. Use code YRP76 for Bolt Taxi to get discounts on your first ride.
Poznan airport to city center shuttle service
If you are arriving very early in the morning and don’t want to wait for the night bus or prefer to have everything scheduled right before your departure to avoid any miss-ups, booking a private transfer could be the best option.
The driver will be waiting for you at any time of the day and bring you directly to your accommodation.
Renting a car at Poznań airport
For those who prefer to be more flexible in their transportation, renting a car directly at the airport is best. While you can find rental company offices at the airport, I suggest scheduling your rental car pickup in advance so that you can drive the car you are most comfortable with.
Good to know these too
Hotels nearby: if you have an early morning departure from the airport and want to be close to the airport instead of using a taxi, transfer, or bus, there are a few Poznan airport hotels, including Moxy Poznan, Comm Hotel, Hotel Atlantis, and Yose Apartment, just a few minutes walk away.
Poznan sightseeing between flights: since the airport is very close to the city and you have a few hours layover, there are several things to do in Poznan in between flights to see one of the most charming cities in Poland.
Continuing your trip outside Poznań: unfortunately, there are no direct lines from Poznan airport to Wroclaw, Warsaw, Krakow, or Gdansk, for instance. You would need to get to the central train or bus station and then change to your preferred means of transportation.
